“Leo's love leads to Virgo's service” Spica, the brightest star in Virgo shines its light on us from August 22 to September 22. September is traditionally known as the month of the harvest, and in Jewish tradition it was the start of a New Year and the month of soul cleansing. This sign and symbol can be compared to the full moon phase or completion of a cycle. It is the fruit of the tree…. ‘As you sow, so shall you reap.'
Virgo is depicted as a Winged Virgin Goddess holding a palm branch in the left hand and an ear of wheat in the right. [2] In Greek mythology she was the daughter of Jupiter and Themis and was known as Astraes, Goddess of Justice. She was in search of peace and when she could not find it here, she escaped to the heavens in despair. Virgo or Astraes, was also known as Demeter, the Greek Goddess of the harvest. The Egyptians knew her as Isis, the Goddess of fertility, the Hindus named her Kauni, or the maiden, the Persians, Khosha meaning ‘Ear of Wheat,' and the Hebrews called her Bethulah, abundance in harvest. Others still associate her with the asteroid Ceres, the Goddess of crops and fields and perhaps she is even connected to Crop Circles. The Asteroid Vesta may also belong to her, as this archetype is known as the virginal priestesses or Vestal Virgins, who were guardians of the Hearth and holy fire. Although Virgo is an earth sign, in antiquity she also belonged to fire sign Leo, which is symbolized in the statue of the Sphinx.
Virgo is the 6th sign of the zodiac, and rules the 6th house of astrology chart, is a mutable sign and has authority over health, service to others, work and is related to thinking and communication. Virgo also rules the smaller domestic animals and our pets. If you meet someone who loves pets, you know that they have a strong Virgo tendency in their chart. Mercury, sometimes known as Thoth, or Hermes, is the ruling planet of both Virgo and Gemini. While Gemini gathers information, Virgo analyzes and reviews data and facts.
Virgos are somewhat reserved or shy and prefer to work behind the scenes rather than front stage. Although, as they gain self-confidence they can take responsibility for a leadership position. It is important to remember that those born from August 22 to September 16th or 17th actually have Leo sun signs in the sidereal zodiac or Vedic astrology. Virgo's are extremely hard workers, conscientious, practical and have an aptitude for detail. The Virgo mind is usually always on the go, thinking , analyzing, and putting things away in neat , organized compartments in their brains as well as their homes. This is especially true if mercury is in Virgo; they are constantly doing something and find it hard to relax. However if mercury is in Libra, they get a reprieve and can find balance in their daily activities. They are worriers and have a discriminating mind, are logical, make great researchers, picking apart every detail to find the root of any problem. You can usually tell a Virgo by the meticulous appearance in hair and dress, and if you go to their home, it is likely to be just as orderly. Now on the other hand, they are the great worriers of the zodiac and can be fuzzy, critical, over conscientious and finicky. They are their own worst enemies as they are highly self critical, they can overwork themselves to the point of exhaustions, become workaholics, and give too much so there is nothing left for themselves. Then they say they can't help it, as they are driven to work and serve others. Which is true of this sign, it is called the sign of self-sacrifice and service. Those with a Virgo ascendant s are often found working in the health industry or at the very least have an interest in health, herbs, diet, hygiene, and healing. Virgos make great researchers, business people, writers, critics , investigators, or any work or career that requires close attention to detail. They need to establish healthy boundaries so they do not become martyrs or slaves to their work or cause.
This is a sign of perfectionism and if taken too far can lead to obsessive qualities. The personality disorder for this sign may be obsession compulsive disorder and perfectionism that leads to rigid routines.
But all in all Virgo is best known as a sign of purity with good intentions to serve their fellow man and the smaller domestic animal kingdom.
Virgo rules the intestines, digestive track, and the process of digestion. Digestion refers to not only the food we eat, but also the thoughts we assimilate and process. It is important for Virgos and those with Virgo ascendants to cleanse the body of toxins, especially the colon and digestive tract.
Virgo's are polarized at the right brain intellectual level, and therefore, worry or stress can create blocks in brain activity and in the mental body. These blocks then create mental toxins that eventually affect the physical body. Yoga (a Virgo practice), mediation, and correct breathing can help release toxins and stress. At another level the stomach is where the Solar plexus charka is located and is called Manipura charka, which is associated with the unbiblical cord. This is where we received our nourishment from our mothers while in the womb, and how we establish relationships modeled by our parents or other important figures during our childhood. Many dysfunctions and illnesses are manifestations of charka imbalances from faulty beliefs that have been recorded and programmed into our minds during our growing years. These messages can be likened to old tapes playing back to us data and beliefs that are no longer appropriate and are damaging to our self worth. One of the tasks of the Virgo is to purge the mind of such thoughts, and purify the mind with positive affirmations. This brings to mind the simple , yet truthful passage in Romans, 12:2 “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you will know the perfect will of God.”
In the Book Vibrational Medicine, by Dr. Richer Gerber (p.385), states this charka is connected to personal power, and says, “From an emotional and spiritual standpoint, the solar-plexus charka is linked to the issue of personal power.” This is related to the feeling of having control over one's life. An energy blockage in this area can create negative emotions such as anger, control, and abuse; and can be associated with a difficult relationship and bonding with the mother and/or women in general... On the other hand the issue of personal power can be recognized as ‘victim consciousness' where one loses all power and becomes submissive. Furthermore, these issues are taken into your adult relationships and usually cause a similar dysfunction. If you have any of these signs or symptoms, find yourself a good yoga teacher and counsellor, and work through these emotional blocks.
The Tarot card the Hermit is associated with the constellation of Virgo. It represents the number 9 in tarot numerology, but is assigned to number 10, the number of perfection in Kabbalah symbology. The glyph for this symbol is the Yod, the tongues of flame. The word Yod means hand, open or extended hand… the hand of God. Yod in Hebrew adds up to the number 20 and means vision or prophesy and resonates to the musical note F. While it is a path of great determination, it is nevertheless a balanced middle path on the Tree of Life. Virgos must use and learn the art of careful discrimination, otherwise they can be lead astray off their path of attainment. The Hermit represents Ancient wisdom and when he stands on the mountaintop of Capricorn he has reached his goal. Alice Bailey refers to this path as “the narrow edged razor path.” This Tarot card is correlated with the scripture passage Matthew 7:13 The Narrow Gate. .
Go in through the narrow gate because the gate to hell is wide and the road that leads to it is easy and there are many who travel it, but the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard and there are few who find it.” This path is referring to the choices we make in our daily lives. Do we follow mainstream society and accumulate and work for the material riches or do we focus on spiritual attainment. When some form of enlightenment or cosmic consciousness is accomplished, it builds a positive magnetic auric field around one's body that attracts like magic all that we need and desire. When spiritual unfoldment is attained. one on this path wishes to share his wealth with others and is not compelled to extravagance at other's expense. [3] Here, “Virgo is dominated by self conscious initiative and represents the state in which the highest manifestation of self-consciousness is experienced”.
Esoterically , Virgo is associated with the virgin birth and according the Alice Bailey, “Virgo veils the Christ child,” which refers to the mystical process of the l2nd birth or the 2nd coming of Christ..
It is further symbolized by the two signs with similar glyphs, namely Virgo, the seed, and Scorpio, the process of birth ruled by mars. Apparently in the beginning times these two signs were one, but separated by the constellation Libra to bring about the balancing of the polar opposites of each sign. The mystery is veiled in this word : Shamayim, meaning Heaven, (Bahir 1:99)
It is the sign of purity, service, and sacrifice:
Mark 9:35 “If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and the servant of all.”
Zechariah 3.8 “For behold I will bring forth my servant the branch”
John 12:23-24-26 “the hour has come for the son of man to receive great glory. I am telling you the truth: a grain of wheat remains no more than a single grain unless it is dropped on the ground and dies. If it does die it produces many grains.” “Whoever wants to serve me must follow me.”
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
irgo is the constellation that is pure as a virgin , and is associated with the mind, the thinker and is ruled by mercury. The test in Virgo is to purify the consciousness and prepare the way for the 2nd birth to occur. The conception of the 2nd birth cannot take place in a mind that is in judgment, resentment, and negative thinking. There is much work to be done to purify the mind, and when accomplished could be referred to as virgin space, ready for new experiences. Which brings us to the [4] Sabian symbol:Gemini 12° A Negro Girl Fights for her Independence in the City,
Keynote: Liberation from the ghosts of the past ….Every new beginning carries ghosts of the past, personal and global which was identified with the ego. A new experience is opened, but is filled with ghosts of the past, preconceptions, and prejudices. What is needed is a total liquidation of the past” virgin minds for virgin fields. This calls for forgiveness of self and others and an open compassionate heart. It asks of the person to be aware of what thoughts and beliefs are allowed to process in the mental field. (this is the process called the forth step in the 12 step program called A.A.)
You could say this symbol is related to the transfiguration experience:
Mark 9:2 “ Jesus led them up a high mountain, where they were alone. As they looked on. a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white.” This change comes from the conception with the Holy Spirit. ….The high mountain refers to the constellation of Capricorn, where one is steady on his feet, like the mountain goat and slowly climbs to the heights of his goal, whatever it may be. This passage is related to the [5] Sabian symbol Capricorn 27°… Pilgrims Climbing the steep Steps Leading to a Mountain Shrine, Keynote : the ascent of the individual consciousness to the highest realizations reached by spiritual leaders of it's culture. This symbol speaks of peak experiences, where one follows in the path of our great Teachers and Sages of our race. It's man's supreme will to rise like fire (the kundalini fire, or the coming of the Holy Spirit by Fire, Acts :2) , impelled by a vision he shares with his companions. the Keyword is …Up-reaching.
There has been mush discussion about the star of Bethlehem as the Star Sirius, located in the zodiac at 12° Cancer, perhaps Sirius is a clue to Jesus' birth:

Every man is potentially the avatar or manifestation of a soul that has a definite function in the vast field of activity we call earth. To discover the hidden , deeper potential of being one requires a deeper or higher vision. The keynote is Revelation.
There has been much discussion about the correct date of Jesus birth date and time, a topic that I am very interested in. However the body of information and research is so vast that I will write about this at another time. It is interesting to note that many scholars and researchers are of the belief that Jesus was been born in September and/ or had Virgo rising on the ascendant. I am in agreement with this theory as the symbology of his life points to the Virgo-Pisces axis as well as the Capricorn mountain top experience. For example Jesus was born of a virgin, (Virgo) he was a healer (Virgo), and his ministry was helping the outcasts, the sick and blind (Pisces – polar opposite of Virgo)) Mary's seed,( Virgo) brought forth the harvest (Virgo) of her ancestral heritage, (the branch and seed she holds in her hand – Taurus) The harvest, or fruit of the tree we know was Jesus, who was purified through the transfiguration experience in Capricorn. Capricorn is a trine aspect to the constellation of Virgo, the love Jesus spoke of is the trine to Taurus, ruled by Venus … He told us he was from the bright morning star, which is Venus. Revelation 22:16 “ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to announce these things to you in the churches. I am descended from the family of David; I am the bright morning star.”

The Brightest Star in Virgo is Spica and sits at 23° 09' in Libra. (If you are wondering why the star is in Libra and not Virgo, please refer the article on Cancer on this website. It explains the precession of the equinoxes , and the difference of the fixed stars and the constellations.) Spica rose at 22 & 24° Libra and asset at 22 & 24o Aries. This star culminates at 25o Libra and was on the nadir at 25o Aries. It is interesting to note that this star is in alignment with Arcturus, 23° Libra, in Bootes, the constellation is often refereed to as “ The Coming One” and is associated with helping others find a new path.
he wheat shaft that Virgo holds in her hand is symbolic of the star Spica and her gifts to humankind. This star is known to give gifts to the one whose chart it touches, perhaps the gifts of the spirit as outlined in Corinthians 12.
[7] Bernadette Brady states, “ In some way the person with this star has a gift of brilliance, a hidden or obvious talent, a skill or ability that is out of the ordinary”. If Spica is connected to other strong positive stars, they may become famous from their gifted talent or insights.
This star sits at 9°15' of Libra and means grape gatherer and is therefore connected with the time of the harvest. The saying, “ As you sew, so shall you reap,” belongs to this star. It sits on the right arm of Virgo, and rises in the morning just before the time of vintage It is a star of collector's or gatherer's such as Art, stamp, car, collectors , or people who gather facts, things or other people to accomplish their goals. In the little book The Degree's of the Zodiac, by Donna Henson, she states, this degree is one where you may be alone for awhile, work in the movies, have a lovable nature, and are good with finances. The Sabian Symbol assigned to this degree is… 9° Libra… Three “Old Masters” Hanging On A Wall Of A Special Room In An Art Gallery .
According to astrological writer's Robson and Rigor, this star belongs to Libra and not Virgo. This star, they say, can sometimes be ‘the path of negativia' and can cause one to become widowed or alone for awhile. Ebertin says it is a star of strong focus and concentration. Wilson, Simmonite, and Alvidas all place this star in Virgo instead of Libra. There also seems to be some discrepancy of the location of this star, some say it is on the wing, other's say the right arm . I am sure it's location is on the right arm as I just happened to have a synchronistic event whereby a wasp sting me ( the path of negativia) on my right arm, thus I will take this as a sign to the correct position of this star.!
Located at 26° Virgo on the right wing of Virgo and means gloriously beautiful.[8] This is the star that was used to confirm Einstein’s theory during the solar eclipse of September 21, 1922. Symbolically it means correct weighing, and may be connected to Daniel 5:25-28 . It is a beneficial star is giving a strong character along with combative movements and destructiveness.
Virgo is an earth sign , rules the mind, health, work and service to others. The more we concentrate on positive visualization, self talk, and outcomes, the more abundant will be our harvest of thoughts and actions. A healthy mind is a healthy body. Body-Mind medicine is becoming a fundamental part of the Global New thought Movement and has much merit as research suggests it is on the leading edge of health awareness. Dr. Deepak Chopra has been instrumental in bring this body of information into the field of alternative medicine. In service, can we be willing to contribute our ideas and support this new paradigm in the health care system. In addition, to clean and purify our thought process along with our planets environment. Our soil is becoming more and more contaminated to the point that our food is no longer fully trusted as a good source of nourishment. If your Dharma is connected to any of the above issues, or you just simply have desire to make a difference, please… come forward and stand for what you believe in.
