Lights, energy, sound, vibration…..Action. It sounds very Leo to me.
I believe this was how it all started; the heart of creation sprang forth and manifested what we know of today as our universe. This is the stuff the Music of the Spheres is made of. The planets and other space objects each vibrate at their own speed, playing their own tune to create the greatest symphony of all. This is the 'Music of the Spheres'. The first time I heard it, the music I mean, I could hardly believe my ears. I thought, so that's where Beethoven received his inspiration. That was 11 years ago and I have only heard it a few times since. It was a mystery and miracle to me and God knows I love mysteries (and miracles). So, off I went exploring into the hidden books of knowledge deep with my mind. I found a mathematical sequence, language and eventually discovered Pythagoras. Finally, someone else who loved numbers as much as I do! Pythagoras had heard the music and was perhaps the one who coined the phrase 'Music of the Spheres.' His genius had been sparked and his philosophy developed into what we know today as 'sacred geometry.' Pythagoras was a searcher for truth and his work surely shows signs of divine inspiration. He concluded the building blocks of the universe were mathematics, which also lead him to musical ratios. Johannes Kepler, astronomer, astrologer, mathematician, and philosopher, also followed Pythagoras' teachings, and more recently, Marc Edward Jones assigned a 'Sabian symbol' to this sacred knowledge, namely 29°o Aries. Jones called this degree 'Music of the Spheres' and gives the meaning as 'Attunement to Cosmic order, listen to the inner voice'.
Now, for a little bit of Dawn's 'arm chair' Philosophy, (derived by combinations of many philosophies and personal experiences). In the beginning, there was nothing, but nothing is something; nothing stirred, and became conscious of itself. This conscious awareness touched the nothingness and created a third aspect. This aspect of three can be further defined as The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit; or the Atom; A positive and negative charge, giving birth to an electron. After contact, they began to spin and orbit around each other, gaining speed faster than the light that created it, nuclear energy formed, and boom, the big bang! Matter spread out over the nothingness of space, making the most beautiful of all music and formed what we know of as today as the constellations. When we look to the sky, we can see dot-to-dot formations that make up each constellation. Think of each dot as a musical note; each note reaching to the next, making its own unique musical light show.
A perfect example of the tones, chords and music from each constellation was demonstrated in the movie 'Encounters of the third Kind'. The space ship played a unique musical chord, identifying the constellation from whence it came. This brings to mind Ezekiel, 1:25,
"But there was still a sound coming from above the dome over their heads". You can't discount the possibility that Ezekiel's Vision was perhaps a UFO experience, or at least that's my opinion! It almost sounds like Hollywood took this passage and made it reel in Encounters of a Third Kind. Just an added note, The Big Bang theory, Ezekiel's vision, and the Uranus opposition all can be defined by the Sabian symbol Taurus 2°, 'the Cosmic Power able to transform all the implications of natural existence. A revelation is implied, the consciousness may be deeply disturbed by the visitation, but the substance of the individual being can be fecundated by the experience.' Furthermore, perhaps it was this symbol that heralded the roar of Leo, the lion. After all, logically, it is possible, as this degree in Taurus opposes Scorpio and both square Leo and Aquarius. A Grand Cross .This is a very potent energy, enough for a grand electrical storm or explosion and an encounter of some kind.
So, it's that time again, July 23 to August 22, Leo, the Lion, is overhead, and brings us the sun and his or her fun, happy and loving nature. Leo likes to let us know he has arrived and is about to take centre stage of the universal screen. And no, that's not Hollywood.! Hmmm or perhaps it is. It makes me think of Metro Goldwyn Meyer and that Lion who has such a presence… and a roar... And so it is With Leo's.
Have you ever wondered why each Sun sign and Constellation have similar traits? Where did they come from, what makes Leo so much fun, and it's polar opposite Aquarius, so original? We, as astrologers have taken up the study, to understand the workings of the universe/s and how it relates to, and affects our planet and us. Was it Socrates who said, know yourself and the truth will set you free'? And let us not forget the one and only, Plato, who added, "Perhaps there is a pattern set up in the heavens for one who desires to see it, and having seen it, to find one in himself". Well, that is what we are here to do. To find the pattern.
In addition, the study of mythology of the constellations, the mysteries of the ancients, harmonics, colors, movement, and character of fixed stars all seem to lead to the similarities of character traits of each sign. This can't be a coincidence, for there is no such thing, according to C.G. Jung, only synchronicity. Personally, at least at his point, I can only surmise, that we are simply evolved stardust!
Leo is perhaps the biggest mystery of all as it did leave its mark in Egypt. Each year, at the time of the summer solstice Leo happened to be sitting on its throne in the sky, just waiting for the opportunity to make itself known. And wouldn't you know it; the pyramids were built during this time. What a monument Leo has to its name. As you can see, it is in Leo's nature to be the center of attention.
Leo's connection to the prominence of the Pyramids at Giza is typical of what the energy of Leo does. It is as if they (I'm not sure who 'they' are!) were saying we have arrived, and if you can figure out this mystery, you get to pass go 3 times. Well, almost! Here we are in the 21st century and we are still talking about the pyramids, so I guess Leo did do its job. ….which is to bring attention to itself. And by the way, if you're interested in some wonderful research on the subject, Graham Hancock, Robert Dauvall, Drunvalo Melchizedek, and many others have written some fabulous work on the deeper mysteries of Orion and the pyramids.
Leo rules the sun, 'the heart of the matter', and is one with the Orion belt, and the mysteries of the Great Pyramid. The three pyramids were built according to the stars shining forth from Orion. And the 3 Kings in the book of Matthew are symbolic of these 3 stars and 3 pyramids. It's true, the reason for our being is written in the heavens.
In addition, it is important to remember that in ancient times Virgo and Leo were considered one constellation. Further, it is interesting to note as time slipped by in Ancient Egypt, the moving zodiac of Leo (tropical zodiac) moved on and in approximately 243 B.C. Leo, the lion lost the tuft of its tail, which formed a new constellation called Coma Berenices. This constellation sits between Bootes and his Dogs and most likely has some connection with Arcturus, the brightest star in Bootes. Furthermore, the intelligence from Arcturus is that of a pathfinder, helping other's find a better way to live. I wonder what their musical tone is like. Stay open minded, you never know what you may encounter…
Have you ever wondered why each sign has such distinct character traits? And for those with a Leonian nature will testify to the love of making an appearance and announcing they have arrived. Now, on the other hand, Leo's are the ones' with an open, generous, and kind heart. This brings to mind, health astrology, for Leo is the ruler of the heart. No wonder so many Leo's or those with Leo ascendants have heart trouble. They lay their hearts on the line, and sometimes they are so open that they have to take time out to dry the tears from the reality of living with others who do not reciprocate their joyful nature.
Leo's need time to assimilate there open heart lessons, and in astrology we see this by the quincunx aspect from the house of Leo ( out front) to the House of Pisces ( time alone, to integrate and contemplate) The mantra 'Ohm' is so good for the cleaning of this organ, and although many may wonder, is this mantra stuff for real. Try it and you will see. Remember this column is called 'Music of the Spheres' for a reason. Our human body, more specifically the endocrine system, contains all the notes of the musical scale. Our responsibility is to keep our instrument fine-tuned, meaning, keeping the vibration in our body flowing in synchronistical rhythm with all creation. I will not elaborate on the science of sound and mantra here, but it was light and sound that created the universe; 'the word went forth' (Genesis 1:3) when we practice mantra's, chanting or primordial sound technique, we are clearing space in the body, which in turn allows more light to enter and cleanse our inner organs, consciousness, and cellular biology.
The heart is the organ that links our lower charkas and human ego and personality to our higher charkas and higher self, or sometimes called the Divine Child. Thus, Leo is the energy and vibration that holds the key to unlocking the heart and connecting us to the higher dimensions. The opening of the heart charka takes inner work and contemplation (12th Pisces)as the inner seed for rebirth is hidden deep within the subconscious. ( Revelations 5.5). The key that opens the heart is the work done between the 5th house Leo and the 12th house Pisces. Esoterically, Leo represents the inner child, and sometimes the lost child, the heart charka and the potential to recreate and re-invent the self, to re-parent a new child, the Divine Child) The inner seed of the Divine Child is consummated in Leo and planted in
Pisces (the womb of nourishing darkness) where it stays hidden and germinates, bringing forth new life through the constellation of Virgo, the Virgin Mother of the harvest. Virgo is the opposite energy to Pisces but also is where the labour takes place to bring forth the new birth. The harvest being the inner seed of the Divine Child. (Revelations 12:5) In addition, Remember the 12th house is also the last phase of the moon, called the dark dawning or womb that nourishes the divine child, or thought, idea until it is ready to give birth. This is where the heart is healed and transformed, thus connecting us to the higher energy's of the heavens.
So you see, with focused practice and contemplation on the inner mystery's, we can tune in and play on the universal stage in harmony with all of Creation.
The Sun sign Leo rules the 5th house of the astrology chart and is associated with creativity, children, the performing arts, the theatre, being 'on stage', or the centre of attention. Also, teaching; especially children or sports, having fun, happiness, hobbies, your passion, be it a creative expression or a love affair, places of entertainment, the divine inner child, the lost child, and the heart chakra. This is a place where one can take their creativity out to the universe and allow the flow of passion to inspire them further.
Leo is a fixed (set in their ways) fire sign. The fire is symbolic of their passion and creative energy, and is ruled by the Sun, thus their happy sunny disposition. Leo's are generous, loving, and dramatic and need affection.
They are often leaders in whatever field they choose, and are excellent organizers. There is a sense of showmanship about them; they have a natural flare for dramatics, and whatever they are or do, puts them in the limelight. When a Leo enters the room, you can sense their presence, for Leo is the King and incidentally, is associated with royalty. You can often single them out in crowds; there will be something about them, perhaps their creative and regal sense of style in jewellery and fashion, the ability to radiate charisma and be noticed, or the famous Leo mane of hair.
Leo's need to be nurtured and recognized for their contribution. In relationships they are loyal and loving, but also sensitive to criticism, therefore it is necessary for their partner and friends to recognize their strengths and provide a positive environment for them. For, when they are not fulfilled in this way, they become despondent and will eventually shut down their creativity and heart. As the sign Leo rules the heart, any shutting down of the heart can be detrimental to their health and emotional well-being! They must have an outlet for their generous spirit, be it a love relationship or something they are passionate about in life. They are loyal and make wonderful parents, partners, and friends.
Leo's personality challenges may include traits such as intolerance, snobbery, arrogant, power hungry, boastful, self-important, and conceited. They can be down right narcissistic, falling in love with themselves to the point where they disregard the importance of others. Because the sign Leo is in a tension point to Taurus and Scorpio, they can become obsessed with power, money, sex, and other Scorpio and Taurus issues. There may be a disregard for the rights, values, talents, and respect of others. Because Leo is a fixed sign they can be very opinionated and stubborn, believing that there is only way to do something, and it's their way! Their pride can be there downfall, they need to learn humility, and in doing so, the love in their hearts can flow freely to others.
The spiritual lesson of Leo is to realize they are wonderful as they are, and as they evolve, they realize their need for attention transmutes into helping others connect with their hearts, creativity, and passion.
Leos are very proud individuals, just like their Lion counterparts. It is interesting to note that Lions socialize with other lions in groups called 'prides'. Because Leos are proud, one of their life lessons is humility, to find the place in there self where they realize that others are as important as they are. At the psychological level, Leo is associated with the ego and therefore the personality.
In order to overcome this pride and ego, the lion enters onto the path of self-discovery. As he learns what motivates him and why he comes to realize that others have a part to play in his life and his ego no longer requires the role of 'lead man'. In fact he realizes others are as special in their own way and encourages them to move into centre stage. Now, he sits backstage and becomes the observer. He is now taking on some of the attributes of the next sign Virgo, and works behind the scenes. The Leo ego is transmuted and transformed into a soul centered personality, recognizing the value of working together for the highest good of all. The actual inner self is reborn through the virgin birth in Virgo; and herein lies the mystery of the Sphinx, half-animal, and half human. The symbology of this famous monument is the overcoming of the ego, (Leo) by the inner virgin rebirth of the soul represented by Virgo. Furthermore, we can see this transformation of energies symbolized in the Tarot card # 8, Strength, or the Kabbalah teachings, Path #19, Teth, also called Strength. The energies and temptations of the lower animal self and lower charkas are overcome through discipline and strength. Eventually, through focus and commitment, this energy can be raised to the higher chakras, or higher frequency vibration where we see unity in all beings. The woman leading the lion represents the taming of the ego.
Ezekiel 1:10…Each living creature had four different faces: a human face in front, a lion's face at the right, a bull's face at the left, and an eagles face at the back. (also known as the 4 faces of God)
Daniel 6:1-28
An example of overcoming the ego and listening to the voice of the soul is the story of Daniel in the Lions Den. Daniel survived in the lions den because he had tamed the lower nature of the ego and learned to listen and trust the voice of the higher nature. The lions did not attack Daniel, as he had raised his animal nature to a higher vibration where he transcended the laws of this world and was now living by the promptings of his higher self. This is a place of trust in the plan of the Creator, which is also known as the voice from within, sometimes-called 'the intuition'.
Revelations 5:5 "The lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David hath prevailed to open the book".
Also written as, "the Lion from Judah's tribe, the great descendant of David has won the victory, and he can break the seven seals and open the scroll". (Good News Bible)
Translation: when one person in the family of humanity has risen from the great illusion that this is all there is, and decides to embark further on the 'inner search' he will become as a child again in the 5th house of Leo. This is the point where one surrenders and believes in miracles and things unseen. In addition, in doing so shall discover the divine seed of the spiritual self within, to the point of contacting the original birth experience. The Lion, which is the ego, has surrendered itself to the soul, the control of the personality dies or is transformed, and the soul is born. The opening of the scrolls occurs when the power of the Holy Spirit or Kundalini rises up the back of the spine. This experience is often felt as an electrical vibration accompanied by sound coming from within; a sense of light appears around the head centre and the third eye.
As this spiritual opening and connection occurs, the fire of the spirit (called baptism by fire) cleanses the cells and consciousness that one has been karmically involved with. The karma being not only the past of the person, but also the past of the ancestors. The Light of the body begins to pulse and continues to cleanse the consciousness and align with the soul's purpose.
The soul has arisen, and appears in a new light. A resurrection has taken place and a new consciousness is born. Others realities and dimensions become real. You have now plugged in to the kingdom of God…. the universal mind. Einstein called it 'the unified field.'
Now this is the miracle.
It is interesting to note the scripture Matthew 2:1-12 that speaks of the men who studied the stars, came from the east. They said, "we saw his star when it came up from the east, and we have come to worship him' Herein lies the mysteries of the soul star, the star on the east side of the chart, the ascendant. The energies of this star are connected to your DNA and soul's purpose. This is the energy where we can connect with the universe. It is here that we can plug into the creators' mind and experience cosmic consciousness. The men from the east carry the DNA of our celestial ancestors. Therefore, this passage in the Bible is one of the most mystical of all and carries the secrets of enlightenment and ascension. This is the point where 'the father and I are one' (John 10:30) Jesus ascended from the soul star on the ascendant. He told us, 'you will do this and even more." Therefore, we have the ability to experience a spiritual ascension from this point also. The question is,… are you ready and willing to go within to the deepest part of yourself and find the seed of the divine child? As this story continues, Herod called a secret meeting and wanted to know the exact time the star had appeared. Now why would Herod want to now the exact time the star appeared? We in astrology know that the time of birth and the time of the first breath is the blueprint that describes the personally, soul and DNA in question. The book of Genesis 2:7 clearly states 'and God breathed into Adam and gave him life.' This sounds like astrological reference to me. The time that God breathes into you, creates the astrological blueprint or mandala that shows the path of your soul and purpose. The Buddhists have known this for centuries as this is how they pick their spiritual leader.
Now, just for fun, try to find the date and time of your birth that coincides with scripture passages. Moreover, if you have your astrological chart, look for the numbers and/or degrees of each planet and your ascendant as well. You will be amazed. Although I have not researched this phenomenon in other spiritual texts, I'm sure you would find similar correlations.
God breathed into Adam, and you, and me and everything else that is living on this earth and in this universe. Even each blade of grass has an astrology chart. The point I am trying to make here is most of us do not see the hidden truths written in this great book. There is much controversy about astrology and the Bible, but if you can see beyond the three-dimensional expose of words, you will see the Bible is an astrological mandala, full of mystical truths, veiled by symbolism .If you are on the path of the searcher, you will know and understand the passage, 'knock and the door will be opened for you, search and you will find" (Luke: 11.9-13, Matthew 7:7-11, Revelations 3:20)
The symbology of the divine child is also recorded in the Pyramid Texts as the story of Isis, and her son Horus. During this time in ancient Egypt Cancer, the mother energy represented by Isis, and Capricorn the father energy, represented by Osiris were in the heavens. Their connection produced the divine child known today as Horus.
It also makes me wonder if Horus has something to do with how our 3rd dimensional time was established, as we can see the word hour in his name. Another riddle perhaps?
The Sabian symbols also come into play here as 10°, Leo is described as:

Keynote: the exalted feeling that rises within the soul of the individual who has successfully passed trough the long night which has tested his strength and his faith. (An Astrological Mandala, Dane Rudhyar, pg.137)… note the similarity with the tarot card # 8 Strength… A woman leading the lion.
This symbol speaks of the long journey of self-discovery that leads to the experience of 'the transfiguration' within ones own consciousness, altering the person at the deepest level .The brains neurological pathways have been realigned and restructured at the level of the DNA.
Another Sabian symbol relating to the transformation of the Leo ego is Gemini 30°:

Keynote: the setting of social standards through personal excellence and competition. (An Astrological Mandala, Dane Rudhyar, pg. 109)
Society seems to compensate individuals who radiate prestige and fame, either physically or mentally. However, is success really about the outer image? Or, is it found in the inner self through the inward search? We can reach a point in our evolution where the hour of decision arises. The show is over…. The outward appearances are an illusion, now is the opportunity to allow the soul to manifest. The decision is always one of free will.

This relates to the permanence we see in the night sky as we
contemplate on the order of existence. The rising and setting of the sun, the seasons, the phases of the moon and the light of night and day.
Regulus
Known as the heart of the lion, and is one of the Royal Stars of Persia, It is successful in nature as long as the owner of this star lives with integrity.
This star sits at 29° Leo. If you have a planet or ascendant at:

29° Leo or Aquarius,
0° Virgo or Pisces,
You have contact with this star.
The energy of this star may manifest as deep feelings in the area of the chart that it touches. With the heat of this fire sign, the feeling may be intense or have great strength. It hits at the very depth of you or an issue. Perhaps it is a creative passion. It moves one to push forward in life, to reach for the stars and success; to stand out in some way. Just as this star is the brightest in the lion, the issues at hand will take on the same light. It can also manifest at the negative polarity, causing feelings of revenge, anger and a fall from Grace. (Brady's book of Stars, pg.261)
This star is associated with the mythology of the Nemean Lion and Goddess Worship. It causes one to see the world differently in some way, as if through another lens, or reality. These people will be non- conforming and unusual in some way, whether it is their beliefs, way of thinking, lifestyle, or fashion remains to be seen. They are usually ahead of there time and therefore out of step with the mainstream of society. There is ability for invention, discovery, and success.
This star sits at 20-21° Virgo. If you have a planet or ascendant at this degree or the following, you will have contact with this energy:

This star creates an aware, alert mind and enthusiasm for life. However, as with any star it has negative traits as well. It can also cause melancholy and medical problems. Zosma sits on the back of the lion and can manifest as problems with the back. Remember the old axiom - as above, so below. Well this is a perfect example how these stars can effect us physically. It also has the potential to involve suffering or victim hood, or, to help those who suffer, such as a child welfare worker. This star was prominent in Mother Teresa's chart and she devoted her life to helping the victims of society and those who suffered.
Zosma sits at 10° Virgo and makes contact with the following degrees:

If you have contact with any of the degrees this energy will affect the planet and house it is placed in.
When the Sun is in Leo, we need to be mindful of the element fire. Leo is a fire sign and the heat of the sun has been more intense than ever before; as we know, our weather patterns are changing. In the movie 'The Day After Tomorrow' we saw what can happen if we continue to ignore the problem and allow the irresponsibly of our global citizens to prevail. I believe this movie carries a strong message.
What can you do to help maintain our environment? Put your ideas on your list of goals to manifest for the next full moon…. And believe that someday humanity as a whole, as well as our planet will also go through a cleansing, spiritual experience. It can happen if we take positive action now.

Your astrological chart is a psychological map of your personality; more specifically—your genetic coding. Your environment has also been an influence or perhaps has deepened your innate patterns.
We can change these by listening to our own intuition and surrendering to our higher self. Healing can take place through Grace ... the essence of unconditional love.
