The Constellation and Moving Zodiac of Cancer

Supernova June 20 - July 22

As we enter the constellation and moving zodiac sign of Cancer let us remember the vastness of this universe we live in, and feel the oneness with all life. The sign Cancer is known as the Divine Mother, and the moon, ruler of Cancer is sometimes referred to as the Divine Shadow. The sun sheds its light, and the moon casts a shadow. Take for instance the phenomena of eclipses, either the sun or moon casts its shadow on the other. Eclipses hold a pattern of consciousness that presents itself as an opportunity for healing the past; either personally , or globally. It's almost like the sun and moon decide to have a clearing of their relationship with each other. You could say that the sun represents our consciousness mind and the moon represents our subconscious. In order to be in integrity these two aspects of the human psyche need to be in harmony, the inner world is expressed in the outer world. Therefore, when eclipses present themselves it is a good time for us to get clear and define our relationship with ourselves, others, and the universe. This polar opposite theme, positive and negative, ying and yang, runs through our universe as fundamental building blocks. . As we know, the human psyche has its own shadow, as well as its light and kindness of spirit. Everything has its own part to play within a common pattern; the moon helps reveal the hidden depths of the pattern, the sun shines its light to purify and reveal the truth.

This Cancerian mother energy holds a very important place in the Tropical zodiac that corresponds to the summer solstice. Each year we experience the longest day of the year around June 20-22.

The summer solstice occurs at the exact moment the Sun enters 0° Cancer. Conversely, the winter solstice occurs at 0° of Capricorn. The solstice is a phenomenon where the Sun stands still and changes direction, and our days gradually become shorter as the Sun turns northward. This changing of direction is symbolically described in the Sabian symbols as:

0-1° Cancer - On a ship the sailors lower an old flag and raise a new one.

A radical change of alliance exteriorized in a symbolic act: a point of no return. Keyword, reorientation. (An Astrological Mandala, Dane Rudhyar, p.110) This particular degree and Sabian Symbol can also be referred to as a change of direction in a person's life. Be it a career, a relationship, or your philosophy and values. When you are making fundamental changes in your life check with your astrologer to see if this degree is moving through your natal, progressed, solar arc or solar return chart. (For anyone not familiar with the Sabian symbols, please read the Gemini Column)

Cancer is also a cardinal sign, which is one of the four signs that correspond to the change of the seasons. The order of these signs is, Aries - spring, Cancer - summer, Libra - fall, and Capricorn- winter. These four signs make the Cardinal Cross on the astrological wheel. Cardinal signs initiate and take action, but may not finish all tasks they start.

The sign Cancer, acknowledged for its sensitivity and memories of the past, can be likened to the mother womb nurturing all things and recording the events of the creation we live in. Therefore, this is a good time to look at the past and explain the difference between the constellations, ( sidereal zodiac) and the moving,( tropical zodiac).

The Sidereal and Tropical Zodiacs

Thousands of years ago the Ancients used the Sidereal Zodiac, which once was aligned with the Constellations, fixed stars and other heavenly bodies. As time went on, the precession of the equinoxes caused the spring equinox (the Aries point) to move backwards, thus the constellations and the zodiac looked out of alignment, as the signs no longer corresponded with the constellations. For example, the 0° Aries point has almost moved backwards to the beginning of Pisces. Today astrologers use either of these systems, sidereal, tropical, or both. The sidereal zodiac is used by Hindu and Vedic astrologers, and in recent years has become very popular in North America. It is now gaining acceptance by those who have previously used only the tropical or moving zodiac. The tropical or moving Zodiac is the one used by most astrologers in North America and in Sun Sign predictive columns, some say that western tropical astrology is better for interpretation of the personality, and sidereal is superior at prediction. Through my own research it seems to me that both are accurate depending on what you are looking at. My conclusion: the tropical zodiac is personality based, like a mask we wear until we are ready to allow the true self to emerge through the sidereal chart. The sidereal chart shows us the karmas we have inherited from our ancestors (or past lives) and the journey of the evolution of the self.

A quick note on karmas: Please remember we are always creating both good and challenging karmas by the thoughts we have, the choices we make, and actions we take. As we move through this awareness, we may eventually become cognizant of the consciousness of our cellular memory and ability for both self and planetary love and awareness.

Cancer and the New Birth

The sign cancer is the gateway where the soul comes into incarnation and it is through our evolution we learn let go of the personality and allow the soul to instruct our life.

Thus, we have potential to become soul infused beings. So you say, what does that mean? It is through this process that we can actually enter deep within ourselves and make contact with the cellular memory of our original birth process. When this miraculous event occurs, you can experience your journey through the birth canal again. This is called the second birth; this is what 'being born again' means. What you have actually birthed is Christ Consciousness. This is the second coming of Christ. When I refer to Christ Consciousness, 'The I Am Presence', I am speaking about the Christ Consciousness that was permeating this planet long before Jesus was born. It was not until Jesus himself received the virgin birth upon the Mount of Transfiguration that he was 'Christed' Thus the name Jesus Christ. Jesus' real name was Yeshua Ben Yosef which means Salvation, to save, or a savior. Persons born under the sign of Cancer are also saviors; their spiritual gifts are to help, heal, and nurture others.

For some of you reading this you may think, impossible! However, I assure you it is not. There are persons who have experienced this type of enlightenment, and science is gradually seeing the possibilities of what it means to be human. For further reading on this subject, you can refer to Dr. Stanislav Groff's groundbreaking work on the evolution of consciousness, or the thought provoking author Itzhak Bentov, who has contributed much to this subject. Thus, through this constellation we can experience a second birth, becoming soul infused beings working for the highest good of all humanity and our magnificent and beautiful planet.

Biblical Correlation of the Constellation of Cancer

Please note: It has been quite an interesting research project to see the correlation of Astrology and the Bible. It looks to me like the Bible is an Astrological Mandala, and when studied, compares to Marc Edmond Jones book, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology. His work also includes the philosophy and brilliance of Carl Jung. This work was further studied and reinterpreted by Dane Rudhyar who wrote, The Cycle of Transformations and an Astrological Mandala: the its 360 Symbolic Phases. I realize for many, the Bible is a challenge to understand. However, I find it to be one of the most mystical books ever written. It has layers upon layers of symbolic and metaphysical information, including the formation and mythology of the constellations, fixed stars, tarot symbology, and actual geometric aspects in astrology. All, explained as stories, mathematical codes, equations and more!

Luke. 4:18 - the Spirit of the Lord is upon me and he has an anointed me to preach the good news, to help free the prisoners, heal the sick.

John 1:33 - I saw the spirit come down from heaven as a Dove and remain on him. I would not have known him except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me.

Titus 3:5 - he saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal.

John 3: 4-5 - How can a man be born again when he is old? Surely he cannot enter his mother's womb a second time to be born! I tell you the truth; no one can be born again unless he is born of water and spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to the Spirit.

Acts 2:20 - The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and notable day of the Lord come

I would also like to share with you my interpretation of Revelations 12:-2

The Woman and The Dragon Revelations 12:-2

There was a woman whose dress was the sun and who had the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars above her head. She was soon to give birth and the pains and suffering of childbirth made her cry out.

(Tarot Card # 21, The World)

Interpretation: there was a woman whose heart, (the Sun, 5th house) was activated and living in the present. The constellation Leo is represented by the Sun and Leo rules over the heart. The moon was under the feet, represents the past (moon in the 12th house, hidden), the feet are represented by the sign Pisces, and if the moon was there, it would represent a letting go of the past (south node, dragons tail). The past is surrendered in the 12th house, as the 1st house is new beginnings.

The mathematical angle between the 12th (Pisces) t and 5th (Leo) house is 150°, an inconjunct, meaning an adjustment must be made; The labor and birthing of the Christ within ( which is the inner personal work we do to find healing within). The woman herself is the constellation of Virgo, representing the harvest, the fruit of the tree, and most importantly, the Virgin birth. The Christed One is born of spirit and not flesh.

The Sun and Moon are opposites, the present and the past. There is the potential for a reconciliation of the pairs of opposites, namely the light and the dark, represented by the Sun and the Moon…..or…. good and evil, or ….left and right brain. When there is reconciliation and a revelation in thought, or the belief system within the brain, there is a quickening that takes place. This is called the 'alchemical marriage', which is the male and female energy within you, coming together (conception) to create the Christ within, or the 2nd coming. Now the Christ is born. The 12 stars represent the 12 constellations, 12 zodiac signs(God's handiwork, the Heavens), the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 months of the year, the 12 disciples, and the 12 energy centers in the body that are activated when the Christ is born. This process is initiated by an activation of the Pineal Gland located deep within the brain centre. This activation is similar to plugging into an electrical circuit, and allows access to the 12 planets and/or 12 major stars. This energy is downloaded and transmitted through you, ( By the Star 'Sirius') connecting you to the universe. You have just installed the ultimate radio band system! The 12 stars over her head means she has dominion over the Zodiac and has successfully passed the tests and initiations of the soul, She has transcended time and space, even over her own original blueprint and coding (the astrology chart) and is given a new code or mark through a chemical process, sometimes called chemical spiritualization, or the rising of the serpent power, the Kundalini. Another name for this is the coming of the Holy Spirit. She is now in union with God. 'The Father and I are One"

The Bible contains many hidden mysteries.

Cancerian Mythology

As we contemplate on the mysteries of the second birth, we find that the mythology of this sign gives us further clues and symbology as what this constellation represents. The ancients known as the Chaldeans noticed the change of direction of the sun at the summer solstice and because the sun was entering this constellation sideways, they named it, Cancer the Crab. However, other legends tell us it has also been associated with the turtle. Yet another interpretation speaks of Hercules, during a fight, was bitten in the heel by a crab. The crab had sacrificed itself, and was crushed, thereby gaining the sympathy of Juno and placed in the heavens where it would be honored.

The Egyptians had yet another interpretation for this constellation whereby they linked it with the symbology and sacredness of the Scarab Beetle and the idea of immortality. The idea of rising from the dead and 'settling upon the empty throne of the Sun God, Ra.'

(Brady's Book of Fixed Stars, B.Brady, p.253) This was interpreted as a new beginning, a new birth; it was a resurrection from unconsciousness awareness and metaphysical blindness to becoming cosmic conscious. Metaphysically, this is viewed as 'the awakening of the dead'.Brady's research came from a book titled, the Gods of the Egyptians, vol., p.356 and quotes, "To the Egyptian mind, when the sun rose with a constellation at the equinox, it was called 'being in the boat of Ra.' A reference to an empty throne indicates that an age has changed and a new God or energy will come to rule the heavens. It was their belief that this is where a Sun God is 'born again.' Thus the idea of the second birth from the womb of the universe. Moreover, a metaphysical view may interpret this as is the death of the personality and awakening of the soul, thus a rebirth or spiritual awakening occurs. This further symbolizes the idea of a Virgin birth. We then may ponder, if there is a birth, where, when and how is does conception take place? A further mystery. Perhaps there is a point in consciousnesswhere a connection takes place within the heart, and communion with God or the Unified Field is established. ……. This brings to mind another Sabian Symbol, 14° ScorpioTelephone Linemen at Work…. The need to establish new channels of communication. There can be no communion without communication at some level, including the level of biological attunement. Keywords: The Will To Association or Comprehension. (Astrological Mandala, D. Rudhyar, p.200)

The Fixed Stars of Cancer

Acubans - sits at 12° Leo, also it rose or set at 17, or 4° Leo or Aquarius, .This star is associated with difficult challenges and the idea of resurrection.

Located in the claws of the crab. (Brady's Book of Stars, B. Brady, p.255)
Praesepe, or the Beehive - 6-7° Leo, a nebula on the head of the crab, fortunate, adventure, founders of large business, medical or healing degree, hitting at the truth of life.

(Degrees of the Zodiac, D. Bensen, p.22, the Fixed Stars, V.E. Robson, p.187 The Manger - 6-7° Leo….. possibility the place where life began. (Brady, p.257) also the North and South Aselli - 2 other stars that referring to two as the asses ridden by Bacchus and Vulcan in the war between the Titans and the Gods (Robson, p.141)

My thoughts: The symbologies of these stars are very similar to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Along with other stars of this constellation and their meanings, it gives enough resemblance to investigate this further. Remember the axiom, 'As Above, so Below'. As in the heavens, also here on earth.

Other Stars of Cancer are:

Tejat 2 ° like Venus and mercury, over confidence
Dirah 4 ° the abused or beaten one, color yellow and blue
Alhena 7-8° gift of art, injuries to the feet
Canopus 13-14° knowledge, ships, solitude, religion, close to Sirius
Wasat 17-18° connected with poison, gas, strong degree
Propus 17-18° as above
Castor 19 -20° positive view of things, writers
Pollux 22-23° negative view of things, writers
Sirius - Sits at 12-13° of Cancer. A very powerful star. It is believed to possibly be the star of Bethlehem, it is known as the star of Initiation, and in the time of Egypt and the Great Pyramids it was this star that gave the promise of enlightenment and immortality. It is also connected with Masonry.

Tarot Symbology

The Moon - Key 18

This key or number rules evolutionary growth. While we are sleeping, our body is still functioning and our upper brain cells rest while the autonomic nervous system takes over, and feeds the cells in our body. The experiences and thoughts of the day are processed at a very deep level. What we think and do during the waking hours is building a magnetic field around us that attracts the events of the following day. We can train our mind to be positive, which will produce a harmonious flow of events. Meditating 20 minutes a day will enhance this process.

The Personality and Soul of Cancer The Crab

The constellation, sun sign, and soul group of Cancerians are here to nurture, care for, heal, to birth and cleanse our inner subconscious and outer material world. It also relates to the forth house of the zodiac wheel and rules issues such as family, ancestors, the parents, old age, and products of the home, land, and real estate. Furthermore, the 4th house is known as the 'roots of the tree of life'. These roots are your ancestral heritage and DNA. Cancer is a water sign and has a natural affinity with other water signs, namely, Scorpio (8th house of the Zodiac wheel) and Pisces (the 12th House). They also enjoy the company of the Earth signs, Virgo, and Taurus. Capricorn is opposite to Cancer and therefore creates an opportunity to come into balance of giving and receiving energy. Because Cancer is a water sign and Capricorn is an earth sign, there can be an opportunity to grow, as the earth needs water to grow.. The Cancerian personality is usually kind, sensitive, and protective. Their instincts, impulses, and feeling are strong, thus, they possess psychic sensitivity. However, they can be moody, touchy, and a bit snappy at times, but this is not there true nature. Under that crusty outward appearance is a soft, caring person. Cancer the Crab has a hard shell, however, it is there to protect their inward sensitive nature. For they really are very sympathetic, receptive, maternal, devoted and make wonderful parents, homemakers. in addition, caregivers. They are cautious, thrifty, and patriotic. They thrive on emotional security.Their family and home is important to them and they love things from the past, including memories. Their challenging side can make them overemotional, changeable, and overly sensitive, sometimes leading to self-pity and resentful.

Health

Cancer is ruled by the moon, therefore as the moon changes signs, so does the mood of Cancerians. Our moods can affect our health and because Cancer's are sensitive, it is important for them to take time to process and assimilate these moods into their energy field. Our moods are determined by our emotions. When we are feeling upset and off balance, it is a good idea to take the time to see what the cause is, or root problem. Then take action to correct the cause. It's like pulling weeds from the garden, we can pull the weed out, but if we do not get to the root of the problem, it will grow back. Remember the moon can reveal to us what is hidden in our ancestral roots. Ask your sub-conscious mind for a dream to reveal the original cause, then take the love in your heart and send it into that situation. The stomach, digestion, and liquid secretions including tears, the breasts, mammary glands, and water retention are the most sensitive areas for a Cancerian's health. On a psychological level, the moon is indirectly related to the hypothalamus, a gland in the endocrine system. This area is related to the emotions in the brain. Therefore, it becomes a health issue if the emotions are off balance as this consequently causes a knot in the stomach. The stomach is connected to the 3rd charka, the solar plexus, or Manipura. This charka is also called the 'belly button' charka, as is where we were once nourished through our mother. When the cord was cut, we were on our own. It is interesting to note the relationships we have with our parents, the care and upbringing, love and support sits here in this area. This is called 'imprinting'. It is from here that we learn our behaviors and carry out the same family dynamic's as our family of origin. It is here that we find the answers to our dysfunction in relationships and self-defeating behaviors. It is also here that we may access our original birth memory and decide to erase the 'old program' of family dynamic's and install a new program consisting of a nurturing, supportive, loving, self talk and self parenting relationship with ourselves. The solar plexus often called the 'seat of the emotions' is the area where the emotional body (etheric double) is connected to the physical body. This charka sends subtle nutritive energy to the stomach, spleen, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, adrenals, and lumbar vertebrae. (Vibrational Medicine, Gerber, p.385) This area is also related to personal power and how we use it, as well as anger, passivity, and control issues. The Cancerian has the body type that does best with regular internal cleansing; remember the body is mostly water, and Cancer is a water sign. Cleansing the internal organs is just as important as the outer body, and probably more so.

The Moon

The Moon, ruler of Cancer, affects the moods of human beings and the sensitivity of nature. Most people feel the intensity of energy at a full moon. In addition, we know that animals and the tides of our oceans are stimulated by the energy and phases of the moon. The Moon moves quickly through the signs of the zodiac (about 2.5 days per sign) and each gives off a particular energy.

The Moon in the Signs

Aries - emotional, courageous, impulsive, sudden flare-ups of temper, emotions are up and down, independent, adventurous spirit, dominating, needs to learn to be quiet.

Phases of the Moon

The moon orbits the earth every 29 days and is usually best understood as a reflector of the suns light. The cycles described below are the 8 major lunation phases.

New Moon - the life seed or thought has been planted and it germinates

Crescent - it breaks through the seed or thought form and shows it's first shoots above the ground

First Quarter Phase - the roots become stronger, or in terms of a thought, your focus takes strong roots

Gibbous Phase - as it receives more light, it starts to create a bud, or positive results begin to manifest in your lifeFull - this is the full light phase, or manifestation of your thought form, the flower (remember what we focus on becomes real)

Disseminating - the flower shares it beauty, or the manifestation of your focus bears fruit. The light starts to lessen

Last Quarter Phase- the flower or manifestation has completed its work, starts to break down, and dies, so it can recreate itself. Darkness is increasing

Balsamic Phase - This is called the dark of the moon, and is a resting phaseWhere the past meets the present so it can reorient itself for the future.

As you can see, these phases correspond to the process of growth, be it flowers, life, businesses, relationships or ideas.

The new moon phase is the time to contemplate your goals and desires. The full moon phase shows the fruits of your intention and focus.

Our Environment

The sign Cancer rules the element of water in our environment. This is a time to be aware of our Oceans, Seas, Lakes, Rivers, Waterways, Community Swimming Pools and other water-filled reservoirs. Can we make a conscious effort to be aware of our use and waste of these resources? For example, running tap water. Imagine there were dollar bills flowing out of the tap water, would you leave it running then? What can we do to protect our water supply and keep our drinking water safe and pure? This is water conscious month. Please be cognizant of our environment.
